BARBADOS will be hosting the XII Central American and Caribbean Karate Championships next March.
President of the Karate Federation, Joel Linton, said that the decision to host the championships here, was taken at the extraordinary congress of the Central American and Caribbean Karate
Confederation which was held in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, during the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games.
Linton said that this was the first time a regional championships would be held in the English-speaking Caribbean.More than 500 comingA minimum of at least 20 countries is expected to participate in the championships. It is estimated that 500 or more athletes and officials from these countries will be attending this event over the one-week period.
Many of the top-rated karatekas within Central America and the Caribbean will be using these championships as a ‘warm-up’ for the Pan-American Games which are also scheduled for next year.
Officials from the CCCK executive committee will be visiting Barbados shortly to inspect the sporting facilities as well as the designated hotels which will be used as accommodation for the visiting teams.
Linton said that it would cost the Barbados Karate Federation in the vicinity of $65 000 to host the championships. (PR)
