DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Barbados romped to their fourth straight victory in the annual Regional Under-13 Cricket Tournament in St Kitts yesterday.
Barbados easily defeated one of the favoured teams, Dominica, by seven wickets at the Edgar Gilbert Sporting Complex in Molineaux to share the lead with the only other unbeaten side, Nevis, on a maximum eight points.
Batting first after winning the toss, Dominica were restricted to 57 for eight in their 25 overs on a hard and fast pitch, while Barbados responded with 58 for three in 15.5 overs.
New ball bowlers Shamar Springer and Keon Harding extracted plenty of bounce, unsettling the Dominican batsmen.
Springer had his best game so far with three wickets, while left-arm spinner Camarie Boyce was miserly, taking two for ten in his five overs to earn his second Man Of The Match award and carry his tally to 12 wickets
There were one wicket apiece for Deswin Currency and Sachin Clarke, who returned to hit 16 not out, sharing an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 38 runs with Nicholas Kirton (15 not out).
Barbados had an early scare in pursuit of their paltry target when they lost their three leading run scorers – captain Lee-Germon Gaskin (eight), Leniko Boucher (nought) and Akil Greenidge (four) – to be in a spot of bother at 20 for three but Clarke and Kirton saw them home.
Barbados will oppose Bermuda today at the same venue in their penultimate game before clashing with Nevis tomorrow at the Elquemedo Willett Sports Complex.Summarised scores
Dominica 57-8 in 25 overs (Kyle Cabey 11, Nian Auguste 10; Shamar Springer 3-14, Camarie Boyce 2-10). Barbados 58-3 in 15.5 overs (Sachin Clarke 16 n.o., Nicholas Kirton 15 n.o.). Barbados won by seven wickets.
Points: Barbados and Nevis 8, Dominica and Bermuda 4, Antigua 2, Anguilla and St Kitts 0. (EZS)
