MORE THAN two dozen of the island’s young footballers seized the chance to glean tips from former England player Ray Parlour who conducted his fourth daily session at the Barbados Sports Camp at Banks Brewery, Wildey, yesterday.
Parlour, who played for Arsenal from the age of 12 until he retired at 32 after enjoying 14 straight years in Division One was very impressed with the enthusiasm and general skill level of the players. However, he suggested that better pitches would help the youngsters to develop proper passing skills.
“Even professionals would struggle to pass on these bubbly pitches. Learning to pass properly helps youngsters to be able to develop the craft of dribbling or passing when either is needed,” Parlour said.
A number of local coaches like Keith Griffith, Horace Stoute, Ricardo Goddard, John Parris, Tony Jarvis and Pete Niles have been part of the camp now in it’s fourth year which also involves Here, young aspiring goalkeeper Winston Maynard attempting to pull off a save during a training session at the Barbados Sports
