Coverley houses going fast

HOUSES AT COVERLEY appear to be selling like the proverbial “hot cakes”.When a DAILY NATION team made a tour of the Christ Church housing project yesterday, there were several “sold” signs on the lawns of a number of the Phase 1, three-bedroom houses.A sales official of The Villages At Coverley said that about 100 of the first 300 to be built had already been sold and keen interest had already been expressed in the others.He noted that one lucky homeowner from the first batch of 300 houses would also get the chance to win a new car, which, during the tour, he pointed out was snugly positioned in one of the garages.He explained that when the ongoing programme was completed Government would have provided more than 1 000 housing solutions for Barbadian families.Describing the work produced by a number of the small contractors on the project as “excellent”, he said prospective homeowners would be delighted by the finishing touches on the homes that included granite countertops, porcelain tiles, ceiling fans, new-styled guttering, garages with windows, PVC fencing, and landscaping, among other features.During the tour several workmen were observed working on another phase of the project.Three hundred houses are due to be completed by year-end, but when the project is completed next year, the entire 17-village community will have 1 026 homes.Last month at the official launch of the project, Minister of Housing Michael Lashley heralded the opening of the first phase, calling it a new dimension in Government’s bid to provide affordable housing.He said it was an example that joint venture projects between Government and private construction companies could work if done the right way.
