PORT-OF-SPAIN – Acting Commissioner of Police James Philbert was sent home on Friday by the Police Service Commission (PSC), paving the way for Deputy Commissioner of Police Stephen Williams to act as police chief.Williams, the most senior deputy commissioner on the order of merit list, was called out from a ten-day vacation he took last Wednesday. He is expected to act as police chief with immediate effect.Philbert’s departure, just one month before the three-month extension given by the PSC expired, came mere hours after the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service Social Welfare Association met with the PSC and expressed its dissatisfaction with Philbert’s leadership.
