Reverberating with performances that evoked the nostalgic joy of Barbadiana, the Community Independence Celebrations were launched at the Jackie Opel Amphitheatre of the General Post Office, Cheapside, The City, last Saturday.
Under the theme Celebrating Our Heritage: Proud To Be A Bajan, it was produced by the Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat, in association with Goddard Enterprises Limited, and focused on heritage, culture and Independence.
Memorable performances came from several local artistes, including the Barbados Dance Theatre who danced to Soca Kartel’s De Whole Place Mash Up.
The Parish Ambassadors and their many supporters, including Minister of Culture Steve Blackett and Minister of Agriculture Haynesley Benn, enjoyed the entertainment menu, savouring tastes of spoken word, drumming, drama and spouge, with a dash of pyrotechnics.
