The countdown to the new school year has started.
Some students will be moving on to a new school; others won’t be. But what is sure is that on Monday morning thousands of children of all ages will be walking through the doors of over 100 Government schools.
And before they deck themselves out in new school uniforms and tote their bags filled with books and, perhaps lunch, many of them, along with family and friends, were spending the last days of their summer vacation “having lots of fun”.
Yesterday the WEEKEND NATION visited the Folkestone Marine Park where scores of children could be seen swimming, eating or, according to shouts from some, “crabbing”.
In the park’s playground little ones could be heard inviting each other “down the slide with me” or lamenting: “I ain’t playing with you, ’cause you don’t want to push me on the swing.”
Parent Vickie Moseley, whose twin daughters Mya and Mia Watson will be entering Infants B at Wesley Hall Primary School, said she had made it a tradition to take her children out to “have some fun” before they started a new school year.
“I just giving them a day out to have some fun before they go back into school. Every year before the summer vacation is over, I take out my children so that they would get the chance to run around, play and have some fun with each other . . . spending time with them is a lot of fun,” she said as she watched her daughters enjoying the precious moments of building a sand castle.
When asked by photographer Nigel Browne what they enjoyed doing, chatty Mya and Mia declared with a laugh that they liked “talking a lot and giving trouble”. (AH)
