Banks, inspired by a disciplined knock of 59 by former West Indies opener Sherwin Campbell, supported by David Carter and Renaldo Holder, recovered from 127 for five to a satisfying 264 for eight in reply to Caribbean Lumber YMPC’s 231 all out.
Campbell first of all shared a sixth-wicket stand of 56 with Carter who made a courageous 36. The pair linked up just before tea which was taken at 132 for five.
Drawing on all his experience of 52 Tests, Campbell took the initiative away from his former teammates. He was at the crease for 165 minutes, faced 104 balls, striking seven threes, before he was bowled by Dwayne Smith.
Smith, who has who has taken three for 97, saw Campbell put down off the outside edge by the ’keeper at 41, in the second over of the new ball which was taken after 67 overs.
Despite being dropped off a lifting delivery when he was four, Carter looked quite comfortable. His knock spanned 138 minutes and contained two threes and two fours off 106 balls before he was caught off Smith.
Holder and Campbell further frustrated the hosts, adding a quick 48 for the seventh-wicket. Holder hit 28, including three threes and two fours, before he fell with the scores equal.
Earlier, openers Martin Nurse and Kofie Hurdle held the hosts at bay with a free-scoring stand of 75 before they were parted. Hurdle was bowled by Smith for a well-played 31 which contained three threes and one four from 53 balls.
In the next over, Nurse was brilliantly caught and bowled inches off the ground by Tennyson Roach diving to his right. He made 38, off 58 deliveries, with five threes and one four. He carried his aggregate to 491 runs for the season.
Carlos Brathwaite, fresh from his professional contract in England, made seven before he was caught.
