Rain, which has severely hampered the entire Sagicor General Shield Competition, might be the deciding factor in the quarter-finals slated for today starting at 11 a.m.
Torrential rain during the week has left the island saturated and even though the sun came out yesterday, there is a feeling that if there is any play at all, the overs might be significantly reduced from 40.
Regulation 21 (d 1) states: In the event that any match in the quarter-finals ends in a “tie” or a “no-decision”, the team which has the better net run rate (see below) in the preliminary rounds shall advance to the semi-finals. This will also apply at the semi-final stage.
In today’s matches, BRC BCL, one of three teams demoted from Division 1 last season, will clash with Ince Transport MTW at Dayrells Road; Barbados Community College (BCC) will meet Nature Valley Lodge at Lester Vaughan, Cane Garden; Mount Gay North Stars will oppose Windward at Foursquare Oval, and Pine Hill Dairy St John Cultural will tackle Market Hill at The Brewery.
The semi-finals are to be played next Sunday, when the winners of the matches at Dayrells Road and Cane Garden will clash at Dayrells Road, and the winners at Foursquare Oval and The Brewery will meet at The Brewery.
The final has been set for October 3 at Desmond Haynes Oval.
