A new local company is ready to provide Barbadians with a unique housing solution that emphasises green living.
According to businessman and builder Carlos Edwards, who is in the process of registering the company, the Eco-pad is designed for low energy use with economical yet elegant living.
Speaking to BARBADOS BUSINESS AUTHORITY at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre last Tuesday where a demonstration unit was on display during an alternative energy seminar, Edwards discussed the main features of the house.
“It is a good long-term investment. It’s going to be fire-resistant, hurricane-resistant and termite-resistant,” he said.
He said the reinforced concrete structure could be built in two months and a 420-square-foot house would cost around $90 000.
Edwards said this cost included a core living area with two bedrooms and separate toilet and shower areas.
Houses will be equipped with a self-sufficient solar photovoltaic system, solar water heater, and tanks for the capture and storage of rainwater. (NB)
