The full extent of the poor conditions at the Commonwealth Games athletes’ village in India has been exposed in photographs obtained by the British Broadcasting Corporation.
The pictures, taken in the last two days, show dirty bathrooms, animal footprints on beds, exposed wiring and flooding outside the buildings.
An emergency meeting called by the Indian prime minister to take stock of preparations for the Games ended with no comment from officials yesterday.
Manmohan Singh called the meeting as a growing number of competitors delayed their arrival for the Games planned for October 3 to 14.
