POLICE HAVE LAUNCHED a massive manhunt for two armed men who robbed the RBTT Bank at Six Roads, St Philip, of an undisclosed sum yesterday.
Reports indicate that just before midday two men wearing masks and brandishing firearms entered the bank and one of them screamed at customers to get on the floor. About 15 customers were in the bank at the time and complied with the instructions.
One customer, Oslyn Alleyne, told the WEEKEND NATION he was waiting to do business when he heard the command from the robbers and he “hit the floor”. He added the experience had left him quite shaken.
Reports are that after the robbery, the two men left the scene in a vehicle bearing only one number plate [rear] which they later abandoned at Oldbury, St Philip, before switching to another car.
The bank was closed to business for the rest of the day.
Police public relations officer Inspector David Welch confirmed that a white Toyota car used in the robbery was found at Country Drive, Oldbury, St Philip. He said a major incident room had been set up with respect to the investigations and that anyone with information should call 429-8787, 4307258, Oistins Police Station at 41826-12 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIPS.
Welch said investigations were carried out at both scenes, as well as the surrounding locations.
No one was hurt during the robbery. (WG)
