A SERIOUS INJURY to Carlton wicketkeeper Rommel King overshadowed a penetrative spell from his captain Marlon Graham and a fighting half-century from LIME captain Courtney Browne that left the battle for first innings points in the key match on a knifeā€™s edge.
Graham celebrated his selection to the national limited-overs side when he collected six wickets for 56 runs from 20 overs, and Browne struck four boundaries in 65 not out from 117 balls in just over 2 1?2 hours, as LIME, replying to Carltonā€™s first innings total of 268 for eight declared, reached 202 for seven at the close of the second day of their eighth-round LIME Division 1 match.
But the two captainsā€™ performances took a bit of a backseat after King hurt himself when he slid trying to take a catch to dismiss Browne, then 63, off Khalid Springer, took a nasty tumble, and appeared to hurt his back.
Play suspended
Kingā€™s injury meant that play was suspended for almost half-hour, as he laid motionless on the turf, and required personnel from the Barbados Ambulance Service to stretcher him away, and take him to hospital.
LIME made a solid start, when openers Randy Thomas and Kevon Beckles put on 49 for the first wicket before Graham spun them into trouble.
He trapped Beckles lbw for 15, had Thomas caught at second slip for 42, also trapped Brian Johnson for six, and had Dario Cummins caught at short third man for 14 to leave LIME on 82 for two.
Browne joined Ashley Nurse, and they carried LIME to 146 for four at tea, with resolute batting.
After the interval, they continued merrily, and put on 88 for the fifth wicket before Shirley Clarke trapped Nurse lbw for 42.
Browne, who had also been dropped by Alex Bridgeman at deep backward square leg off Springer on 12, reached his 50 from 89 balls with a three from overthrows to mid-wicket off the same bowler shortly after Kingā€™s incident.
