Easy-peasy

DEFENDING CHAMPIONS RBTT Deacons and old rivals Progressive will have the easiest of assignments when the Cooperators General Insurance senior volleyball knockouts serve off this evening at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex.
Progressive will meet the unfancied BNB Juniors at 5:30 p.m. while Deacons will play the severely weakened Friendly Hall at 7 p.m.
The Juniors have not been turning out any combative units within the past five years and Progressive will seize this opportunity to warm up for more serious rivals.
Deacons will hardly find a sparring partner in Friendly Hall who have been gutted after a superb 2009 season.
During last season, Friendly Hall had floated in the top three of the Division 1 league following some stunning upsets over the likes of Chargers, Progressive and Foundation United.
Those exploits were orchestrated by setter Rory Goddard who has gone over to Cawmere. With Winston Gittens and Adrian Dottin returning to Drax Hall and Kengie Matthews switching to Foundation, it has left Friendly Hall crippled as a Division 1 team.
The women’s fixture promises two competitive match-ups with Chargers meeting Carlton at 5:30 p.m. and Rockets welcoming British American Jackson to Division 1 at 7 p.m.
Chargers should have the edge over Carlton, but it could be a keen battle between Rockets, who had a promising 2009 season and Jackson, who cleaned up the lower division to gain promotion this year.
