The six young women who perished in the Campus Trendz fire on September 3 will be specially remembered at a National Rally of Peace on Saturday in Jubilee Gardens, The City.
Several artistes and speakers will be addressing the public on social issues under the theme Peace And Healing. This initiative of the Brothers and Sisters for Peace and Healing was announced by David Comissiong, president of the Clement Payne Movement yesterday.
Comissiong said the rally was a national response to the Campus Trendz tragedy and other calamities that had befallen Barbados recently. He added that the rally spoke to the need to correct wrong things in society and helped people to go through the experience of healing.
Barbadians were also urged to come prepared to commit themselves to being a part of an ongoing programme of societal reform. In addition, the Lion’s Club South will assist in the collection of funds to go towards a financial donation to the families of the victims.
It was also announced that several issues of importance to the society would be discussed through the establishment of national campaigns in the names of the six young women.
Problems or sectors will be identified and six action teams will be formed, each one of which will be named in honour of these six women.
The action teams will deal with the identified issues and meet for discussion on the anniversary of the tragedy.
Areas tentatively identified so far are family and neighbourhood life, education and business culture, mass media, Internet and violent video games, religions, and political culture. (LK)
