PORT-OF-SPAIN – Billionaire businessman Lawrence Duprey, 76, has been seeking treatment at two medical facilities in the United States in recent weeks.
His ailment was not disclosed yesterday.
Duprey resigned last year as chairman of the CL Financial conglomerate and CLICO – Trinidad’s largest insurer – after he approached the former People’s National Movement government for a billion-dollar financial rescue because CLICO could not repay hundreds of millions of dollars to depositors.
Duprey on Monday confirmed he was getting medical treatment in the United States.
He has been living in Florida for a number of years.
In a telephone interview with the Trinidad Express, he said he was being treated by doctors at clinics in Miami and New York. (AP)
