3:49 p.m., Friday, Oct. 8 – The top ten who’ll battle for the Lime Karaoke Championship on Sunday have been chosen; and topping them from a field of 18 is Kenrick “ Sticka” Murrell with 94.5 points.
Murrell, who sang Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye and Some Kind Of Wonderful, had his fans shouting approval from the time his name was announced.
Adding his brilliant performances to that, it was clear from the first round that Murrell would be a force to reckon with.
The male contestants found favour with the ladies of the audience, as exemplified in Ivor Lashley, who enters this Sunday’s finals with the fourth highest score (82). He sang Always And Forever and Leave Right Now, which, though not superbly done, were loved by the crowd,
Shanek West, who goes into the finals with the third highest score (83), sang Foolish Games and Big Spender. West, like most of the others, gave the better account in the second half.
Also impressive was Lavern Smith (in fifth position with 81.5 points), who gave one of the best performances of the night. The rendition of If I
Could was grand; her performance of One Moment In Time equally notable.
Only 18 singers of the 20 slated to compete performed. Mary Clarke decided to keep her points from the previous semi-final, which was plagued by technical difficulties, while Lisa Bowen chose to withdraw from the competition. This saw Clarke going into the finals with the second highest points (94).
The ten are Kenrick Murrell, Mary Clarke, Shanek West, Ivor Lashley, Lavern Smith, Kevin Forde, Shelly Chase, Rolrick Bonnet, Michaela Blackette, and Eric Wood. (LK)
