Veteran politician dies at QEH

Veteran politician Carl St Aubyn Haddock, who ran for the House of Assembly eight times without success, has died.
Haddock, 84 years old and a resident of Tweedside Road, St Michael, passed away in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), Thursday, his family reported.
Haddock’s son, Richard David Haddock says: “My father was admitted to hospital on September 24, his birthday.
“He went for a physical check-up at the Sir Winston Scott Polyclinic and they sent him to the hospital because of health problems.”
The elder Haddock entered the political fray in 1961, seeking to win the St Michael South Central seat.
He wanted a chance to represent poor people because they were being short-changed by the politicians. He failed in that and later bids for the House of Assembly.
Haddock was managing director of Maple Leaf Cleaners. Over the years, he also held managerial positions in a number of Government agencies, including the National Housing Corporation, the Barbados Water Authority, the National Assistance Board and the former Ministry of Communications and Works, according to his son.
“My father was a man of great character. He was articulate and eccentric. He loved lawn tennis and was once an avid player.”
The politician is the father of two children, Richard and Claude Haddock.
