Building contractors and other small business people will benefit from an “affordable housing” project Government recently launched in Lancaster, St James.
During a tour of the project today, Minister of Housing and Lands Michael Lashley says though contracts are still to be awarded, a number of small building firms will find work.
The project embraces ten residential lots, which will provide facilities for small businessmen and women, including body care specialists such as nail technicians, Lashley told reporters.
Provision will also be made for day care and mini-mart facilities, says Lashley.
The project managed by the National Housing Corporation (NHC) involves constructing 92 wood and wall houses.
Construction is expected to start in December or early January, 2011. The main contractor is C O Williams Construction Limited.
The project is being carried out in two phases. One involves constructing 45 houses. (TY)
