Al Barrack of Barrack Construction Limited is a very angry man.
Barrack, with his face and hands painted white, staged a protest early today at his construction company in Warrens, St Michael.
He said he believed he had to “become white” to be paid the approximately $65 million owed to him for work carried out by his company for the Government some six years ago.
Barrack added that today’s protest was just the first step of three, if no payments were forthcoming.
“There is no justice in Barbados for black people. Period! . . . This is a three-part series. If nothing happens, then I will go to step two that will be a little more drastic, and if nothing, then I will go to the final step,” he said.
“I intend to press this matter all the way to the top – United Nations. They have been abusing me for the past eight years and I am going to deliver my case to the UN and the details of it. You cannot starve your citizens because they are black,” says Barrack, pointing out that on a few occasions he had “backed down” from proceeding to the UN.
He also said he would not be accepting any part payments either.
“You do not pay arbitrator awards in parts . . . I am giving them a chance to pay me my money soon. This is a statement and I intend to follow up this statement,” he warned.
Pointing out that he owed about US$4.3 million dollars to suppliers, Barrack said he needed to be paid in order to pay them.
“People want to know when I am going to pay them . . . These people don’t understand that the money is not mine. The money I owe the people is long overdue and I deserve to live a proper life like them. If I sick like the Prime Minister, for example, I can’t have medical [attention]. I would die because I don’t have a private jet to fly me anywhere. I am not in a position like these people,” the irate contractor said.
