MAVIS BECKLES – Duh doing as duh like

Well I gine tell ya, it is a sad day in Barbados when ya could see politicians, big able men and women getting on like lil children and very spoilt ones too. But not only dey getting on so, but dey doing it fuh evahbody tuh see.
I aint gine tell you nuh lie, it is really embarrassing tuh say the least when yuh see dat the men and women who we purposely went out there and vote for tuh run the affairs o’ this country acting like this.
Now the other day duh had a reshuffle and some people who got shifted from the ministry they were in tuh another, like duh didn’t like it too purty. Duh didn’t see it as nuh laughing matter neither; some o’ dem take it real hard, hear?
One body in particular even called a Press conference and later cancelled it. I aint know who talk tuh he and get he tuh change he mind, but I gine tell ya, there’s more tuh the motar than the pessle, judging from the way he get on.
As an old acquaintance used tuh say, “it will all come out in the wash”.
But there’s something dat got me, this sorta thing like wha’ happening wid Miss Mottley and Mr Arthur aint happen already?
Well if my memory serves me correctly, I could remember a few years back something like this happen in another camp and it didn’t guh down nor turn out too well at all. I could also remember dat people had suhmuch compassion fuh the fella dat they reached out a hand tuh him and welcome him ovuh pon dem side.
I do not like what is going on bout here, neither do I understand. I do not understand how somebody could consciously, purposely and publicly give away something and then after all o’ this long time, it is still expected tuh belong tuh dem, or duh want um back.
I aint know wha’ the lotta long talk is all about at all. I could remember, if my memory serves me correctly, Mr Arthur handing ovah the leadership tuh Miss Mottley after his party get beaten at the polls; so wha’ is all this bout who and who is the best body tuh run this party and later, if the electorate feels like it, this country?Leader in placeI cahn understand how all sorts o’ people could be opening duh mouts and talking bout who should or should’nt be the leader. Wha’ as far as I was concerned, I thought a leader was already selected, acting, behaving and getting on like a real leader.
I thought dat from the time the elections done, the dust settled and things get back tuh normal and people get all kinds o’ responsibilities assigned tuh dem, dat dat would have been the end of all this inside bickering and fighting. But I like I lie ’cause look at the lot o’ foolishness dat gine on.
We bout here got a whole lot o’ things tuh worry bout a’ready. Things like how ya gine keep lil bittle pon the table when the day come as evahthing is as expensive as evah; or if one o’ these mornings when ya turn up fuh work ya find a letter telling you dat the place closing down because it gone bankrupt, and poor you outta a lil pick in these hard economic times.
Ya know wha happen tuh all hans’ o’ wunna people so? Wunna too damn happy.
If wunna had tuh live in places like India, Indonesia, Pakistan and dem kinda places where evahtime ya look round ya gotta be dodging bullets or running fuh ya life because o’ some kinda flood or tsunami or something so.
All we doing is carrying on and doing the dog over lil power dat gine last fuh as long as people let it.• Mavis Beckles was born and raised in The Orleans. She has an opinion on everything.
