Oral care is just as important as general health care.
Speaking at an oral health promotion this weekend in Jubilee Gardens as part of Oral Health month, Minister of Health Donville Inniss said Barbadians need to pay greater attention to their oral care.
He lamented that his ministry’s dental care programme was not at the level he would like to see it.
Inniss, who accepted a range of product samples from the organisers Colgate Palmolive intended for use in the government dental clinics, also highlighted the need for better “human and financial resources” to provide a good national dental programme, noting government cannot do it alone.
The minister in sensitising Barbadians to good health care, said alot of the health challenges could be easily diagnosed with regular check-ups and stressed the need to have your teeth checked twice a year.
The minister said good oral care is also important for diabetics, who sometimes develop serious oral challenges.
Chief Dental Officer Dr Fannye Thompson also wants more Barbadians to take advantage of the opportunities to improve oral health and hygiene.
