GOVERNMENT backbencher Hamilton Lashley yesterday described developments in the Barbados Labour Party with the change in Opposition Leader as “a coup”.
In the precincts of the Parliament Buildings “attending to other parliamentary business”, the MP for St Michael South-East, who has been a member of both political parties told the Daily Nation: “I feel bad for Mia because when you face the kind of orchestration that she went through, it is kind of tantamount to a coup, and as a woman and a leader she has to feel rejected by her own.
“It is not easy,” he added.
“I understand the parliamentary procedure . . . I understand also the party orchestration, and what Mia is currently going through is an internal coup, a plot that ousted her in the light of the fact that one, she is a woman, and secondly in my view, she had shown that she is in a position to lead the Barbados Labour Party.
“All that decided Mia’s fate was numbers, and not a great deal; just one.” (GC)
