I REFER TO THE ARTICLE on Page 3 of the Sunday Sun (September 26) How Not To Choose A Lawyer.
So how does one choose a lawyer? The inferred analogy of supermarket shopping and selecting a good lawyer, seems somewhat irrelative.
Most ordinary people not directly or indirectly involved with the legal profession have very little, or no association with lawyers, except in adversity; but they do have constant association with the supermarket’s shelves and items, which can be handled, inspected, compared, and a personal choice made before purchase.
It is different and difficult to access such criteria to choose a lawyer.
One cannot exercise the same sort of supermarket selectivity; and hearsay recommendations are at best a hit or miss.
What would doubtlessly help in the uncertainty of choice is for the Barbados Bar Association to create an elite membership list of those lawyers who are considered as beyond questionable doubt of their ability, experience, integrity and professionalism.
The public would be guaranteed the very best of legal representation from any lawyer on that list – of course, the list being freely available to any would-be client.
It would be a very prestigious list, and I believe most decent lawyers would be proud to be on it.
