BARBADOS NATIONAL BANK (BNB) boss Robert Le Hunte is heading back to Trinidad and Tobago, and he will be replaced by fellow Trinidadian and Republic Bank senior executive Derwin Howell.
A statement issued today from the Trinidad and Tobago-headquartered bank said Le Hunte has been appointed general manager in charge of group planning and financial control and will report directly to Republic Bank’s managing director David Dulal-Whiteway.
Howell, who acted as BNB’s chief executive from April to July this year while Le Hunte attended Harvard Business School in the United States, has been a member of Republic Bank’s executive management team since 1997 and as the general manager of commercial and retail banking with responsibility for the bank’s 40 branches in Trinidad and Tobago.
The new BNB boss comes from a background in telecommunications and financial services. He is a First Class Honours graduate in electrical engineering from the University of the West Indies, and holds an Executive Master’s in Business Administration and a MSc. in Telecommunications Systems. He is a graduate of the Advanced Management Programme at the Harvard Business School.
In announcing the changes, Dulal-Whiteway explained that the movements formed part of a broader reorganisation of the bank’s executive management team, “designed to broaden the exposure of its members and prepare them for greater leadership opportunities” in the banking group.
Le Hunte will assume responsibility for the strategic planning and financial management of the Republic Bank Group and will have a key role in the bank’s expansion thrust through mergers and acquisitions.
