DARIO?THOMPSON, the nephew former Prime Minister David Thompson raised from the age of four and often referred to as his son, said he was told by his uncle that he would have to be the man in the Thompson household.
The 22 year-old who recently arrived in Barbados from Canada, where he resides, choked back tears as he spoke of Thompson’s last words to him.
“He called me about two days before he died and he told me that he only had a year to live and that I would have to be the man. This was just too sudden,” an emotional Dario told the Weekend Nation, after viewing Thompson’s body in the Parliament building yesterday.
While he pointed out that he was shocked over his uncle’s “sudden” death, he said he will try his best to be the man that his uncle wanted him to be.
Dario, who moved to Canada five years ago also explained that Thompson had travelled there to speak to him about his illness.
“He came to Canada and let me know how he was and what was going on,” he said.
