A song for Thompson

Nine-time Pic-O-de-Crop calypso king Stedson “Red Plastic Bag” Wiltshire could be soon penning a special calypso, paying tribute to the late Prime Minister, David Thompson.
“I’m thinking seriously about it. To write a song about David Thompson cannot be any ordinary son. David Thompson must get a special song. For us,Barbadians, as Hartley (Henry) quite rightly said, people never refer to him as our Prime Minister, it was always my Prime Minister because we felt so close to him,” Wiltshire said.
RPBsaid when Thompson first became Prime Minister in January 2008, he dedicated a song – All Eyes Are on You – to him.
“My song to him was simple, ‘just don’t make the same mistakes that the others made and I thought that in his two years as Prime Minister, he did well in steadying and keeping the ship afloat. Thompson was good for politics inBarbados and good for Barbados on the whole,” added the bard, who is known as the Lyrical Master.
RPB is also hoping his fellow calypsonians do justice to Thompson’s political career and life.
“Actually, I would hope that calypsonians give him his due in song. I think that he would go down as one of the great Barbadians,” RPBsaid.
International recording artiste Rupert “Rupee” Clarke, who delayed his departure to London to attend yesterday’s funeral at Kensington Oval, said he will also be paying tribute to the former long-serving St John Member of Parliament.
“I leave to London tomorrow (today) for a two-week tour so possibly in the time that I’m out there, I can put together a tribute. I definitely have the vibe on it already,” Rupee said.
