President of the United States Barack Obama says the late Prime Minister David Thompson was a “good friend” to that country.
In a condolence message to Governor General Sir Clifford Husbands today, Obama said the late leader who was laid to rest on Wednesday, helped to enhance the traditionally close ties which Barbados and the United States enjoyed.
“I want to convey to you our deepest sympathy on the passing of Prime Minister David Thompson. He was a good friend to the United States, enhancing our countries’ traditionally close ties.
Barbados’ democratic institutions have been tested and have proven their resilience under these sad circumstances. I commend the strength and fortitude of the Barbadian people. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you” stated the message, which was signed by the President.
