Former Opposition Leader Mia Mottley is still going after the chairmanship of the Barbados Labour Party [BLP].
This despite being ousted from her leadership of the party by five of her parliamentary colleagues last month.
At a media briefing today at the BLP’s Roebuck Street, St Michael headquarters to discuss details for the party’s 72nd annual conference that starts Friday night, chairman of the conference arrangement committee Santia Bradshaw confirmed that Mottley would be challenging incumbent chairman George Payne for that position.
There had been speculation that since losing the reins of control over the party to former Prime Minister Owen Arthur, that Mottley would have withdrawn her nomination.
Bradshaw also revealed that St Lucy candidate Peter Phillips would be challenging Cynthia Forde for the position of general secretary of the party.
Bradshaw said the theme of this year’s conference which starts at the Plantation Garden Theatre with an awards ceremony and dinner from 8 p.m. and continues Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. at Deighton Griffith Secondary, would be Charting A New Direction For Barbados.
Bradshaw announced that among the awardees Friday night would be Joan Williams [Milroy Reece Award]; Rudy Grant [Chairman’s Award]; and Nigel Barrow [Grantley Adams Award].
She also revealed that about 900 delegates would take part in the conference.
