‘SPOUGE IS WE T’ING’!
An afternoon lesson in spouge music had scores of students jumping and waving at Springer Memorial School on Friday afternoon.
Former Draytons Two singer Desmond “Fowl” Weekes, and ex-Troubadour Mike Thompson, backed by the Bridgetown Boys, had the children dancing and singing along to such tunes – in a spouge beat – as Drink Milk, Lion Sleeps Tonight, Stick By Me, She’s Royal and a few others.
As part of activities marking the month of Independence, students got a sweet taste of the indigenous Barbadian music, with Weekes giving them a history of the beat and its ups and downs.
Weekes, whose daughters were graduates of the school, also urged them to make the most of their education and reach for the stars.
