Christmas jazz is on

The First Caribbean Christmas Jazz is set to light up the Plantation Garden Theatre once again this year.
The show, now in its eight year, will be held on December 12 with an all star line up that includes multi platinum recording artist Kenny Lattimore, virtuouso bassist Marcus Miller and eight time Grammy award nominee Kirk Whalum.
Producer of the annual Christmas Jazz show Deryck Walcott also revealed that for the first time this year, the show will be repeated the following day at the same venue. This, he explained, was because of the sold out crowds attending the signature event over the years.
He said: “I want to make sure that I give everyone an opportunity to attend. Last year for example, I know there were a number of people who could not secure tickets for the show, which was sold out.
“In addition the crowds attending the show at the Plantation Garden Theatre have been growing with the venue now filled to capacity. So this year I will be having a second show on the following day”.
Walcott also noted that students and musicians will again have the opportunity to interact with the world class musicians at a free workshop on Saturday, December 11.
Walcott said he was excited about the lineup he has put together for this year’s show, recognising that the show has managed to attract some of the best and most talented in the music business.
He said all the musicians were excited to be in Barbados, adding that Whalum, in particular, was looking forward to another performance in Barbados. (CM)
