Two double up on wins

Paco Moss and Steve Skinner were in sublime form in the men’s doubles when the National Championships continued at the Table Tennis Centre, Nursery Drive, St Michael, Thursday night.
Moss and Skinner took out Wayne Branch and Rawle Husbands in straight games 11-6, 11-5, 14-12 and then downed Stephen Payne and Russell Maxwell 11-4, 11-6, 11-13, 11-5.
It was a tough night for Branch and Husbands, who also lost to Aaron Barker and Clifton Mark 8-11, 6-11, 9-11.  
Barker and Mark, one of the strongest pairs in the tournament, also beat Payne and Russell 11-9, 11-5, 11-8.
In the other match Abbie “Playboy” Clarke and Mark Dowell, another highly rated combination, maintained their unbeaten record by defeating Rashad King and Dale Rudder in a nail-biting contest 11-7, 7-11, 10-12, 11-5, 14-12.
In mixed doubles action, Trevor Farley and Sabrina Worrell proved the dominant pair.
They played unbeaten, thereby setting themselves up as favourites after compelling performances against high-quality opponents.
The two national players beat Skinner and Melanie Scantlebury 11-3, 11-6, 11-6 and then dropped a game as they took out Tryvonn Powlett and Roseanne Butcher 11-7, 11-4, 6-11, 11-3.  
But it was against fellow national players Clarke and Ann Reid that they pulled out all the stops.
Farley and Worrell found themselves two games down 5-11, 8-11, but rebounded to frustrate Clarke and Reid by winning the next three games 12-10, 15-13, 11-6.
Anderson Carrington and Tara Burrowes pulled off a five-game thriller to beat Mark Dowell and Riley 11-5, 11-8, 3-11, 11-13, 11-9.  
Mark and Nicole Alleyne also made an impression in the championships, pulling off two impressive wins to stay in contention for the title.
They beat Carrington and Burrowes 11-9, 11-4, 9-11, 14-12. Mark and Alleyne then toppled Dowell and Riley 7-11, 11-5, 11-7, 14-12.
