RYSHON WILLIAMS turned in a spectacular all-round performance to send defending champions Charles F. Broome into the quarterfinals of the Guardian General National Sports Council Herman Griffith Primary Schools’ Cricket Competition yesterday.
Williams hit an unbeaten 96 that lifted Charles F. Broome to a competitive 192 for one against Mount Tabor and then grabbed six for nine to send the opponents crashing for 25 at Ellerton.
Charles F. Broome won by a massive 167 runs to advance to the quarterfinals where they will meet former champions Bayleys at Briar Hall on Tuesday.
Bayleys clinched their place in the last eight after defeating multiple champions Wesley Hall by seven wickets at Dover.
Wesley Hall, the most decorated team in the history of the competition, managed only 95 and Bayleys won comfortably.
St Catherine, who are also former champions, were sent crashing out of the tournament after losing to St Matthew’s Primary by 15 runs in a low-scoring match at Briar Hall.
St Catherine would have fancied their chances of victory after rolling over St Matthew’s for 45, but the opponents struck back by dismissing the St Philip team for a paltry 30 with Joshua Walcott grabbing five for nine.
