CASTRIES – The St Lucia government intends to implement a new appraisal system for public workers amid growing discontent at the level of service given to the country.
Public Service Minister Leonard Montoute said yesterday that the World Bank would be providing assistance in the formulation of the new system.
“There is a pressing need to review the regulations because we are governed by the staff orders and we are getting help from the World Bank for the review with a view to establishing a Public Service Employment Act and regulation which will be a new document that will address all the concerns that have been expressed over the years,” Montoute said.
He said he expected the process to be completed and implemented during 2011.
“It must be noted that there are public servants who go well beyond the call of duty in the execution of their duties, so that it is the delinquent ones who give the government department a bad name that the legislation seeks to target. Having said so, we don’t want to deal with these matters in an ad hoc subjective manner,” he added.
