UWI and Wanderers thrilling tie

LEADERS Sagicor UWI and Wanderers played to a dramatic tie in a 12th and penultimate round LIME Division 1 cricket match which ended in fading light with the scores level.
With one run needed at Dayrells Road, Wanderers, chasing 225 for victory in a minimum of 61 overs, were dismissed for 224 as Gary Belle was trapped leg before wicket by UWI’s off-spinner Ryan Austin, who finished with five for 72.
UWI gained 12 points from the match to stay at the top of the standings on 123 points with one series left, while Wanderers got six.
Wanderers’ bid for a come-from-behind was led by veteran Gavin Beresford, who made a fine attacking 66 off 58 balls while featuring in an excellent opening stand of 96, and Marvin Forde, who made 41.
After Forde was caught behind and Beresford unnecessarily run out, Wanderers were kept on course by useful contributions from captain Renaldo Arthur (29), Jason Greene (24), Diego Stuart (20) and Chad Clarke-Reifer (15).
However, Clarke-Reifer, who hit two fours in one over from Austin to bring the equation down to five runs with three wickets in hand, and Stuart fell within one run of each other, and the last-wicket pair of Belle and Jamar Layne only managed three of the four runs needed.
Earlier, Stuart helped Wanderers gained two vital batting points with a knock of 32 before they were bowled out for 201, replying to UWI’s 315 for four declared. UWI then sped to 110 for three in just 11 overs, with Jonathan Carter lashing 44 off 29 balls, before making their second declaration of the match. – EZRA STUARTAT QUEEN’S PARK: Title challengers Super Centre Spartan increased their chances of lifting the trophy by defeating traditional nemesis BNB St Catherine by seven wickets.
St Catherine resumed on their overnight 161 for six and were dismissed for 204. Chad Proverbs, who started the day on 56, fell in the first over. Set 116 for victory, Spartan coasted home, losing only three wickets. They moved to within seven points of UWI.
Openers Rashidi Boucher (58) and Wayne Blackman (44) made sure there was no cause for panic as they posted a 100-run stand. – HAROLD EASTMONDAT FOURSQUARE OVAL: ESA Field Pickwick completed their second successive victory with a comprehensive ten- wicket win over Police.   
The victory carried them to 86 points and Police moved to 70 points. Set a mere ten runs in the entire post-lunch session, Pickwick reached the target when Kyle Hope finished the game with a four. He now has 803 runs – the first batsmen to reach that landmark.
Starting the final day in deficit by 104 on first innings, Police were bundled out on the stroke of tea for a paltry 113. There were three wickets each for Jared Gilkes, Tino Best and Romelle Small.– ELVIS HOWARDAT CANE GARDEN: Rolston Chase fell short by four runs but Akeem Springer would not be denied a maiden Division 1 century as Guardian General Barbados Youth pummelled the CGI Maple attack to the tune of 303 for two to take first innings honours.
Springer, who started the day on eight not out and finished unbeaten on 131, played the supporting role to the more experienced Chase, who made 96, as the pair posted 166 for the second wicket.
Springer smashed 18 fours and four sixes as the “Youth” easily overtook Maple’s first innings total of 297.– WAYNE HOLDERAT BECKLES ROAD: Caribbean Lumber YMPC run machinery went on the rampage in a high-scoring contest in which they earned first innings points over LIME.
Starting the day on 199 for one in reply to LIME’s 333, YMPC reached 472 for eight.
Kemal Smith converted his unbeaten overnight 60 to 104 before he fell to leg spinner Nikolai Charles. Steve Blackett pressed on from 117 to 141 before he too fell to Charles, who took four for 110.
Ryan Wiggins scored a breezy 64, while captain Calvin Watson was unbeaten on 50.– PHILIP HACKETTAT INCH MARLOW: A five-wicket haul by Shawn Graham propelled ICBL?Empire to an innings and nine runs victory in less than two days and lifted them to fourth in the table.
Dover were skittled out for 113 after Empire extended their 236 for four to declare at 256 without any further loss. Graham took five for 22, and left-arm spinner Ryan Hinds two for 15.– ANCILLE INNISS
AT DESMOND HAYNES OVAL: Carlos Brathwaite further advertised his all-round skills when he hit 70, and captain Keegan Alleyne scored 64 to help Banks earn a draw with TeleBarbados Carlton.
The pair added 109 for the third wicket, as Banks reached 211 for six in their second innings.
Jamel Noel completed a useful all-round performance, with three wickets for 28 runs from nine overs. He earlier scored 42 not out, as Carlton, resuming from 302 for eight overnight, were dismissed for 358 to take a 110-run first innings lead. – PGM
