BARBADOS super lightweight boxing prospect Miguel “Hands of Stone” Antoine added another knockout victory to his unblemished record when he dispatched Guyanese Shawn Pile in three rounds last Friday night at Cliff Anderson Hall in Georgetown.
The 22-year-old hard-hitting Antoine, who was recently stripped of his WBC?CABOFE?title last year when permission was not granted for a card at which he was due to make a title defence, to take place during the 2010 AIBA?women’s world championships, started slowly as he tried to figure out the southpaw style of Pile.
Antoine sent Pile to the canvas early in the second round with a series of accurate combinations.
Pile was also floored two more times in the third round, the last was a result of a well placed right uppercut.
Referee Eon Jardine had seen enough and wisely saved Pile from further punishment, giving Antoine, who is trained by top local promoter Sam Layne, his 13th victory in as many fights.
Another Barbadian boxer Shawn Terry Cox also travelled to Guyana, prepared to defend his WBC CABOFE cruiserweight title but arrangements for him to fight Antonio Mercado of Colombia fell through.
As a result, Cox has now been allowed to make a mandatory defence of his title in January. (EZS)
