Lights need ‘more work’

TRAFFIC LIGHTS have been erected at the junction of Swan Street and Lucas Street  to control pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
However, Inspector Leon Blades of the police traffic division, says there is more to be done to make the lights more effective.
Blades said yesterday that the lights were set up by the Ministry of Transport and Works as there was always heavy pedestrian traffic there due to Swan Street’s being a pedestrian mall.
“However it appears people are not fully aware of the lights. So we have asked the ministry to take another look as the Walk signal is too high. We are also asking them to place alert notices leading to the lights,” he added.
A MIDWEEK NATION team asked pedestrians about the new lights. Some were happy with the idea, while complained of the height of the Walk signal. (CA)
