GOD is calling Barbados back to holiness.
This message was relayed to the congregation of Worship and Breakthrough Centre by John Inniss, as he pleaded with those who are called by the name of Jesus Christ to live holy and righteous lives before the Lord.
Seated in modest surroundings at their Bank Hall, St Michael sanctuary last Sunday, the congregation listened attentively as Inniss quoted a number of scripture verses, the first of which was 1 Thessalonians 4: 7: “For God has not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness,” he told his listeners.
“Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord,” he emphasised, as he next quoted Hebrews 12:14.
Inniss told his listeners that when Christ died his foremost thought was sanctification; that He might sanctify the people with His own blood (Hebrews 13: 12.) “Having shrugged off the yoke of sin and seen the hope that lay beyond the shadow of death, we are able to live the rest of our lives in holiness. This sinless state, made possible through the shedding of Christ’s blood, is maintained through sanctification by the Word of God,” Inniss said.
He added: “If we give sin a presence in our lives, we cancel what had been already achieved and make the purposes of God (of none effect) – unholy.
“God has created a place of holiness in you; a place where he dwells, or would like to dwell,” the minister of the Word said.
He noted that in order to maintain this relationship of a Holy God living in a “holy place,” one must continue to walk holy.
He advised his listeners to avoid sin and its very appearance; give thanks to God for everything, and maintain fellowship with those around them – especially the brethren.
He also told them to guard their mouths and to hear and obey the voice of God.
Quoting from Hebrews 10: 19-25, (King James Version), he added: “Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the Blood of Jesus; by a new and living way, which He has consecrated for us through the veil; that is to say, His flesh; and having a High Priest over the House of God; let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
“Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; for He is faithful that promised; and let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works; not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another; and so much the more; as ye see the day approaching.”
This call to holiness has become the watchword for the congregation at Worship and Breakthrough Centre, and the church has planned promotional activities and sermons, which will continue to speak to this call throughout the coming months.
