Policymakers, business people and international development partners can now benefit from the launch of a new publication entitled Growth And Development Strategies For The Caribbean.
The book, which was commissioned by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), is a compilation of papers on the critical aspects of growth and development strategy for the region.
Director of CDB’s Economic Department Dr Denny Lewis-Bynoe, speaking at the launch at CDB’s headquarters recently, said the book begins with a review of the economic, social and environmental performance of the region.
It also offers an indepth look at what has transpired post-independence as it relates to all aspects of our economic and social development.
Growth And Development Strategies For The Caribbean also seeks to identify some of the strategies employed over the period and what have been the successes to those strategies.
“It also seeks to look at what the region should consider in the areas of economic development, social issues relating to crime and violence, energy and immigration. It is forward looking as to what this region should be doing as it relates to those areas over the next decade,” Lewis-Bynoe said.
She added that an important part of the exercise was to give those involved in producing the publication a sense of the gaps in the knowledge as it related to growth and development strategies for the region.
“The book has been made available to the libraries at the Universities of the West Indies, the Barbados Community College and the public library, and will soon go on sale at a nominal fee. (CT)
