COMMUTERS USING the Cheapside bus terminal are not happy about its current state.
During then Tropical Storm Tomas, one part of the terminal was blown over and it remains so today.
Charles Vanluain said it was due to poor architecture.
“First thing, this is a waste of money as it is not architecturally sound. Next, why has this been down so long? They should at least remove it as it is potentially dangerous what with the exposed wiring and sharp corners,” he said.
Another man, who was not identified, said: “This was so since Tomas and it still here.”
Audrey Williams, a former conductress at the Transport Board, said it was a dangerous situation.
This sentiment was repeated by most of the people interviewed. They complained the Cheapside Bus Terminal was never very good in the first place and was now worse as, in addition to the damage, there were hardly any seats in the shade for people, particularly the elderly, to rest.
The DAILY NATION contacted Transport Authority assistant director Alex Linton for comment but he directed inquiries to chairman Joseph King, who in turn said he was awaiting a report from his assistant director and should be able to comment today. (CA)
