VETA LEWIS hasn’t been home since 1991, but when she came through the arrival hall at Grantley Adams International Airport yesterday, her smiles said that for her Barbados was “home sweet home”.
Lewis, who currently resides in Montreal, Canada, said her last visit to Barbados was traumatic because of the death of her mother, and since then she couldn’t find the courage to return home.
“But I’m finally back and I feel fantastic,” she told the WEEKEND NATION as she surveyed the new airport.
Her niece Gloria Weekes, who was at the airport to greet her, said for years she had been begging her aunt to come home, but could never convince her “until now”.
“We are so happy to have her home. Everyone is waiting to see her and we have a packed agenda for her over this Christmas period,” Weekes said.
Lewis said if there was one thing she wanted to do during her one-month stay it was to take a Safari ride across Barbados.
“I’ve been hearing about these Safari rides for quite a while, so I must take one while I’m here, but right now I just want to settle down and relax with my family for a while,” she stated. (CT)
