Netball has new president

Juanita Cordle is the new president of the Barbados Netball Association (BNA), defeating Octavia Gibson 26-23 at the annual general meeting at the National Stadium Lounge, last night.
The membership ousted Gibson and replaced her with the former vice president. Cordle is a former national player. Carlos Lovell, a former director, is the new vice president.
Assistant secretary treasurer Michelle Lorde was the only council member to retain her post, while Bryan Holder and Tracey Leacock are the new directors.
However, the fallout has already begun as the posts of secretary and treasurer are vacant. On the changing of the president, former secretary Alicia Jemmott and long-serving treasurer Daisy Browne both withdrew their nominations. Both had been unopposed.
Barbados will also need to find a new senior coach as Alwyn Babb tendered his resignation at the meeting. In thanking the former president and her council, Babb wished the new executive well.
The search for a new coach will have to be a priority. Barbados has a tough international schedule next year, including a tri-nation series against Jamaica and Trinidad in April and the World Netball Championships in Singapore in July. (SAT)
