Bajans beware, surf’s up

A high surf advisory is in effect for Barbados from tomorrow, according to a Marine Weather Bulletin issued by The Barbados Meteorological Services this morning at 10:30.
This advisory will remain in effect until 6 p.m. on Friday.
“Another deep-layered low pressure system in the north-central Atlantic is generating large northerly swells. Some of these swells are already impacting some coastal waters of Barbados and a further deterioration is expected. As a result, a High-Surf Advisory will again be in effect for the northern, eastern and western coastlines of Barbados from tomorrow into Friday”.
A high surf advisory means that seas will generate very large breaking waves and dangerous rip currents along coastal waters of Barbados, officials explained.
As a result, Barbadians are being advised to stay clear of the beaches wherever possible and to be on the look out for large breaking waves surging onto the shore.
There is also a small craft warning for Barbados which has been in effect for Barbados for the past several days and according to Met officials, swells are forecasted to increase to between ten and 13 feet. This warning will be in effect indefinitely. (CM)
