If you think the Town Planning Department has given you permission to develop land, double check your documents.
That’s the word from the Royal Barbados Police Force, which says it’s investigating reports of fraudulent use of the department’s approval stamp.
“We have received a report from the Chief Town Planner, Mark Cummins, concerning the fraudulent use of the department’s approval stamp and we are investigating the matter,” the police’s public relations officer, Inspector David Welch, said yesterday.
“We would encourage people who believe they recently received Town Planning Department permission to double check their documentation and contact the department to verify the authenticity. We expect the department would be in touch with us about any other irregularities discovered.”
In a brief Press release, the Barbados Government Information Service (BGIS) said yesterday Cummins had advised the public that planning permission consists of approved or certified drawings along with the written decision, with the Town and Country Planning Act, Cap. 240 printed directly beneath the logo and coat of arms.
The official document must also state “permission to develop land” and include the conditions under which the permission has been granted, he pointed out.People who have made submissions to the Chief Town Planner are asked to be vigilant and to ensure that they receive authentic documents from their agents, BGIS said.
