Dear Christine,The reason I am writing you this letter is because I need help badly. Right now I live in a house that an old man left to me but it is rotten. I called just about all the agencies for help, but all I got was “call back later”.
This has been going on for a long time now. I have a disability and have been crying out for help, but no one has responded to me. The house leaks a lot because all of the galvanised sheets are old and rusty. There are just a few things that are left inside the house because the rest have been destroyed by the rain. When it rains I have to put buckets in the house to catch the water. Because of my position and living condition, my children have to live elsewhere.
Christine, on the right side of my body the leg is smaller than the left. Right now my hip is hurting and it is difficult for me to walk. Sometimes I have to use a stick. I also have to use the toilet in the yard, and sometimes I fall.
Please help me with my house. I have my son who goes to secondary school and he tries his best. Christine, when the rain falls, his clothes get wet and this causes him to stay away from school and that’s not good for him.
Right now I feel like giving up because I feel like no one cares. You are my last hope, Christine. May God continue to bless you for all that you have done and continue to do. Without you a lot of us would be lost. – A.P.Dear A.P.,Your situation seems urgent indeed and we will certainly try to assist you in every way that we can. We will visit you shortly to make a proper assessment of your needs so that we can inform our readers on the best way they can assist.
We are concerned about your claim of not getting a favourable response from any of the agencies you contacted. This seems strange indeed. It is even more shocking that you have a disability and yet they have, according to you, not responded.
After our assessment of your needs we will be able to contact them on your behalf.
In the meantime, I wonder if you can be temporarily accommodated at some other residence so that you can be properly looked after and not have to endure the rigours you do now? Don’t you have any relatives or friends nearby who can lend some assistance in this way?
It saddens me when I hear of children having to miss school for reasons that are otherwise preventable. And certainly in this day and age no child’s education should be placed in jeopardy when it just rains. Better can be done here, and must be done.
So AP, we will visit you this week and take up your case from there.
Christine
