“We Are Family, I have all my sisters and me”.
This Sister Sledge song broke out in Gall Hill, St John around 10:35 last night signaling the entrance of Mara Thompson, the Democratic Labour Party’s candidate for the St John by-election on January 20.
It was a frenzy and the massive crowd went wild, cheering, screaming and applauding as Mara, dressed in a black slacks, blue shirt and yellow scarf made her way through to get to the platform where DLP members, including Prime Minister Freundel Stuart waited to greet her.
They kept shouting, this was the woman they want to be their next representative, continuing the job her late husband David Thompson, had started.
After loud applause and cheers Mara said to the crowd: “Be careful what you ask for”.
“Mara is running. Mara is ready to serve the people of St John” she declared, with her hands raised.
“You asked me to serve and here I am” she said.
