Yesterday workmen were busy removing wooden beams and electrical wiring. Secretary and chief executive officer of the Barbados Turf Club, Rosette Pierce, stated that the repairs to cost $300 000 will see the roof maintaining its original shape and structure.
The only change is the wooden beams, which will be replaced with more secure steel beams.
Further work is slated for the facility. However, Pierce noted that there was not enough time in between the racing schedule to allow this.
“In the long term we will renovate [the stand] completely, and the roof being currently installed is designed to stay in place for what is in store in terms of renovations.”
The work started last week Wednesday and is expected to be completed in a few weeks.  The roof was damaged during the passage of Tropical Storm Tomas on October 30 last year.  (LK)
