Knockout kings Progressive maintained their bid for double crown honours by defeating Sunpower Foundation United in five sets when the division one volleyball action continued on Monday night at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex.
Progressive stuttered after taking the first two sets before winning the match that was more outstanding for the petulant behaviour by the younger members of both teams 25-22, 25-19, 23-25, 23-25, 15-12.
Aidum Cobham along with Nate William and Romel Agard, had threatened to win the second five-setter in successive nights, but three service errors in the decisive fifth set did not help Foundation’s cause.
Young turks Akeem Payne and Corey Harris also played strong with the experienced Fabian Cox and Renier Grace ensuring that Progressive keep in step with RBTT Deacons.
Cellar battle
The earlier cellar battle saw the BNB Juniors thumping Friendly Hall 25-22, 25-18 and 25-20.
That was the second loss for Friendly Hall in successive nights.
The ladies’ cellar skirmish allowed Plus The Club to take their first win for the season as they dismissed 8000 Inc. Carlton 25-20, 26-24, 25-18.  Carlton remain winless after looking challenging in most of their games.
The Rockets in a bid to accumulate points before the departure of their professionals, Shari Matthews and Anicia Wood dished out their second successive straight sets drubbing by beating former queens Carefree Toners, 25-15, 25-15 and 25-18.
Unfortunately, the Rockets who placed second in the knockouts, will have to finish the rest of the season without Matthews and Wood. (KB)
