Some Barbadians have been sharing their views on the fact that once again this year there will be no musical instruments at the National Stadium when the Powerade Barbados Secondary Schools’ Athletic Championships are held.
This news was announced Wednesday and officials assured this will not take away from the excitement and the high level of this year’s championships held on March 9, 10, 11, 17 and 18.

Sherry Gittens said: “Gone are the days when you hear the ‘Cawmere’ posse strike up the band, and if you thought they were good, you would then hear Lodge School start up with those who were in the stands. And, to top it off Harrison College. I can understand if they didn’t want the children on the streets with the drums but good gosh, sports is to be fun.
Kaleb Brathwaite said it was unfortunate that musical instruments were not allowed, because it was a way to help “boost the athletes”.
Jewell Hall simply asked: “What did the music do that was wrong?” (CM)
