Clinton heads to Haiti

United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will visit Haiti tomorrow to consult with Haitian President René Préval and others about the disputed election, a cholera epidemic and post-earthquake reconstruction, State Department spokesman Philip Crowley has said.
It will be Clinton’s first visit to the impoverished, French-speaking Caribbean country since January 16 last year, days after a 7.0 magnitude earthquake killed over 300 000 people and left 1.5 million homeless.
Crowley said Clinton will “consult with members of civil society, political actors, Haiti’s president and international partners on the ongoing electoral situation as well as reconstruction efforts.
Crowley also said that Clinton will visit a cholera clinic, meet Edmond Mulet, the special representative of United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, and consult with candidates in the disputed November 28 presidential and legislative elections. (CMC)
